Another Blake Stars

Austin High’s Tori Blake, whose brother Emory has been catching TD passes for three years at Auburn, was named to the 2011 All-Centex 2nd Team in Volleyball. The senior middle blocker has signed with East Carolina, the alma mater of her father, former Cincinnati Bengals Quarterback, Jeff Blake.

Volleyball’s Katy Brodnax featured

Lady Maroon setter Katie Brodnax was recognized this week in the Statesman’s Faces off the Field. Austin volleyball has had a great season, finishing 2nd in District with their only two losses coming to Westlake’s 4th ranked team. The Lady Maroon’s now gear up for a playoff run.

Volleyball shines

The Lady Maroon Volleyball team routed Rouse Friday night, 25-15, 25-12, 25-19 to up their record to 21-11 on the season.

Barnes named MVP Defensive Player in 15-5A

Junior Blair Barnes of the Austin High Volleyball team was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player in district for the 2010 season. Also named to the 1st team was middle blocker Torre Blake while ouside hitters Layne Hubbard and Wren Overesch appeared on the 2nd team. Jasmyne Walker and Kehle Lenallen earned honorable mention.

Austin Volleyball drops 5-setter

In a see-saw bi-district battle, the Lady Maroons fell to Georgetowwn 25-11, 21-25, 25-12, 16-25, 15.8. Austin finishes its season at 28-19 while the Eagles (37-8) move on against Klein Oak.

Volleyball team heads to the playoffs

Austin High Volleyball begins their playoff run vs. Georgetown on Tuesday, November 2nd at 6pm at the Delco Center. The Maroons finished 3rd in District with a 6-4 record.
